Smart thermostats are everywhere these days, and there are many brands to choose from. Other than Honeywell, there are a few that stand out, such as Nest, Netatmo, Bosch, Hive and Tado. Like the rest, the Honeywell Home THR99C3110 Evohome is a Wi-Fi connected smart thermostat that connects to your home’s internet. It learns your daily routines, and when you leave home it lowers the temperature to save energy. Its colour touchscreen display is easy to use, and the App gives you control over your home’s temperature settings remotely. Evohome setups can save energy and money based on learning a users habits.
This smart thermostat learns how long you’ve been at home, when you go to sleep, wake up and travel for the best temperature settings. It then adjusts the temperature accordingly. You can also set a custom sleep schedule for weekends or during certain seasons. This ensures that the house heats or cools exactly when you want it.
Honeywell Home THR99C3110 Smart Kit comes with the main unit, wireless boiler control relay box and home ATF600 wall mounting kit.

The Honeywell THR99C3110 is an excellent choice for new homes or existing homes with existing sensors. In new homes, there aren’t usually any old heating systems for the Evohome to learn from. However, it can easily learn from an existing heating system if there are existing sensors in the house. Installing a few smart sensors in key rooms will quickly teach your new thermostat where to save energy most effectively. Plus, using an old heating system saves on installation costs since in many cases you don’t need to replace any or many parts with a new model.
The Evohome is also a good choice for older homes that have smart heating systems already installed. If this is the case, they can communicate with compatible thermostats like the Evohome3+. This way, they can lower their temperatures remotely without needing physical contact with the control unit anymore. You also get access to real-time information about how many rooms are warmer than usual or colder than usual so you can take action fast enough to fix any issues that arise.
There are a few other bundle kits to choose from. Two of those come with two Radiator Controller Heads instead of the wall mounting kit. And there's the non-bundle THR99C3100.
Potential Problems
All systems and needs are different, so due to the sheer number of possible variations, no Smart Thermostat has yet been proven to be 100% compatible with them all without having a few issues to overcome. And in some cases, the issues are never overcome due to it being deemed too much hassle to sort out, and the user usually gives up and finds another system that's more easily compatible with their setup.
What's at fault here. In some instances its not the homeowners system that's at fault at all, but the smart device' hardware or software that has a few problems. Blame game. Although do note, some of the issues below may not be the fault of hardware or software problems, but can potentially be an issue on the homeowners side.
For this model some customers have complained about the unit losing communication / connection with the server, Wif-Fi and radiators. Remote access can fail. App can be buggy. Software and energy usage information is / was lacking for what some users expected to have access to. Also, there are a few reports of the touchscreen not being sensitive enough and needs some hard finger pressing in order to respond. But overall a very good system. When it works, which is most of the time, it works great. Another Evo model worth looking at, is the
ATP921R3100.
