Siemens RWB2E and RWB29 Replacement

If you want an easy swap over, and want to remain brand loyal, the Siemens RWB29SI makes a very good replacement for both the RWB2E (analogue / mechanical) and RWB29 (digital). It's also a direct replacement for the Siemens RWB9. Once replaced, the RWB29SI should provide many years of trouble free service. In terms of features they all perform relatively the same, but the transition from using an analogue (RWB2E) will have a small learning curve if using a digital programmer / timer for the first time.

Buy the Siemens RWB27

Siemens RWB29SI [now sold out. Buy the RWB27 instead]  features include: Digital display, programmable over 5 / 2 Day or the full 7 Days, up to 3 On / Off timer changes each day, extend, advance (boost available from 1 - 3 hours), holiday mode, auto seasonal time change, boiler service reminder and light indicators which light up red when hot water and central heating is on.

The service reminder for the boiler is looked at as an unwanted / uneeded feature for this model. While the reminder can be reset, many people would rather it be totally disabled. If the reminder hasn't been enabled to begin by the installer, it may not give the user any service reminder messages.

If however it has been enabled at somepoint, and the user doesn't get the boiler service done within the timeframe specified (more than likely 1 year), boiler usage will be restricted after a certain amount of time has passed. As mentioned above, it's not difficult to reset. Please take a look at the manual for more information on this issue (see the link below).

While there are a few reports of the screen failing after a few years, these are fairly isolated incidents for this model, not widespread like this problem has been on other programmer models. Siemens (Landis & Staefa) (Landis & Gyr) generally make good programmers, with the majority of models lasting a long time (between 10 and 20 years). Looking for the PDF manual for the RWB29SI? You can read / download that here.

Just replaced my old RWB29 with a 29Si. As description says this is a 2 minute straight swop...well done Siemens. HOWEVER... the old unit defaulted to AUTO upon power up, just dial in your timings and good to go. The Si unit does not!. It defaults to Manual OFF. Much head scratching ensued as I programmed my timings but nothing happened. You have to go into the menu and select AUTO. All very confusing. If the ON/OFF timings show on the screen you're good to go.
