Reliability: Longest Lasting Boiler?

It's been reported that an elderly couple are having to buy a new boiler for their home due to their old one stopping working. It finally gave up after providing a fault-free service for 48 years! It was looked after though, having been serviced every year throughout its lifetime.

Sadly for all those who are in the market for a new boiler that's extremely reliable like this one, and would like to buy this bionic boiler, the longest lasting boiler has finally packed up due to being too old! That is, too old to have any replacement parts available. So really, this boiler could have kept on working if there were still parts available. Who knows how long it could have lasted.

The boiler in question was a British made Hotspur oil-fired, by Harford Unical (now closed). Given the fact that most boilers these days generally have a 10 year - 20 year lifespan, I guess the old saying is very fitting here. They sure don't make them like they used to.

They paid £200 for their boiler back in the early 1970's. That's was a lot of money back in the seventies. I guess they won't be too surprised then by the price of a new boiler today in 2019 / 2020, as the equivalent worth of that money in terms of buying power in the early 1970's Vs today's worth is not too different. £200 in the early 70's is the equivalent of approximately £3,000 in today's money.

I suppose they could always pay monthly if they have difficulty paying for their new model in one go. If the couples new boiler lasts even half the time their old Hotspur did they'll be doing very well. Do you know of another boiler that's older than this one @ 48 years old. If so comment below.
