Gas Boiler Help and Considerations UK

The price point is one in the first things people take into consideration when looking to  buy / finance a brand new gas boiler. The type of system you already have installed, and also the type of gas boiler you choose as the replacement will affect the installation costs. These days condensing gas boilers are very efficient and there are several different types, each having their own set of different features.

In the UK, you should be prepared to pay around £800 for a new boiler. However, the fitting / installation labour is not cheap. The £800 for the boiler will rise to well over the £1000 mark. Furthermore, if you need or request work done on radiators, thermostats or other controls, this can potentially hike the overall price up even higher.

Energy Prices

Energy prices are not getting any cheaper. In fact, they have risen over the last few years. As you're probably aware, gas boilers have various energy ratings dependent on their gas efficiency. So in many cases it can actually save a household money in the long run if they purchases a boiler that costs more to buy if it has an extremely good energy rating / high level of efficiency.

Government Grants / Schemes

It's also wise to spend a bit of time researching to see whether you’re entitled to any government grants or discounts which can help to bring down the price considerably. There have been quite a few government schemes available to households that need help with boiler related costs and gas bills over the years. One that was very popular was the warm front award.

But I believe that has now been discontinued. However, depending on if you receive qualifying benefits there are still quite a few ways to get help with the cost of a new boiler. You can read more about that, and about how paying monthly for a new boiler works here.

Warm Home Discount Scheme

As a side note while we're talking about saving money on energy bills, there's also the Warm Home Discount Scheme. This can help people struggling with energy bills in the UK, giving them £140 of their electricity bill. I believe it comes in the form of a credit, so the persons meter will get a top up of £140. There's also Cold Weather Payments and the Winter Fuel Payment to take advantage of. All of these have certain qualifying criteria, mostly in the form of what benefits a person is claiming / age, so be sure to check if you qualify.

Boiler Pay Monthly / Finance schemes

Most of the big boiler companies offer pay monthly finance schemes. There are many that offer 0% finance on short term payment plans. Longer payment plans usually have some interest added. Some companies will structure your repayment amount to what you can afford to pay (within reason of course).

As I mentioned on a previous post, which is linked to above, paying monthly for a boiler is basically a loan, so don't enter into an agreement lightly, or without knowing where you stand on legally having to pay back the loan if you run into financial difficulty keeping up with the payments.
